EMO, Hall 4, Stand B 18 , 01.10.2009 Clamping honeycomb parts with ice Mobile ice duo
Machining honeycomb type workpieces makes special demands on clamping technology. Neither
conventional clamping methods nor vacuum systems have been able to create ideal conditions for 3D
machining of these parts.
In contrast freeze clamp technology has become generally more and more accepted for clamping
filigree and honeycomb parts.
Witte Bleckede has now developed a freeze clamp system, which works with two chucks at the same
time. So while one chuck is in working process, parts can be prepared on the second chuck. Clamping
or freezing of work-pieces takes approx. 30 seconds. Release or thawing is done in the same time
frame. To clamp parts the chucks are moistened by hand with a little water, the parts are placed and
frozen by activating a switch. The temperature is then continuously monitored, ideally at -10° C.
The supply components such as refrigeration compressor, coolant tank etc. are housed in a cooling
unit. The unit is equipped with castors enabling applications on different machines.
